JESUS HAS ALREADY WON THE BATTLE

SATURDAY OF THE SECOND WEEK OF EASTER

Today's first reading is the first letter of Saint Peter (1 Pet 5:5-14). I love this reading. It contains one of my favorite verses of Scripture.

Your opponent, the devil, is prowling around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

In my experience, many Catholics shy away from speaking about the-one-who-must-not-be-named. I'm not sure why that is, and I'd like us to be a little more open about the works of the devil. He is real, and when we turn away from the Lord in sin, the devil rejoices. The devil has no power over us unless we allow it. Saint Peter tells us in the very next verse how to resist the lures of the devil, be steadfast in faith. Through God's grace, when we turn away from sin and turn our hearts and minds to His goodness, He will strengthen us so that we can better resist the temptations of the devil. We need not fight alone; we need only to turn to the Lord. He has already won the battle for us. #Jesuswins #Catholic #theonewhomustnotbenamed #grace
