EASTER WEDNESDAY: HEARTS ABLAZE

Today is one of my favorite Gospel passages, The Road to Emmaus. I am so easily able to put myself in the shoes of the two disciples. Here they are distraught over the death of their friend and all the while He is walking with them. Often too busy with my thoughts, I go about my day, cleaning, cooking, working, and fail to realize that He is walking right beside me. The Lord repeats the actions at the Last Supper. He takes the bread, blesses it, breaks it, and gives it to them. With that, the disciples' eyes are opened to His presence. Christ is revealing His spiritual presence that will remain with them in the Eucharist, in the breaking of the bread. Once their eyes are opened, they reflect on the day; their hearts were burning as He spoke the scriptures to them. Do you see it? The Catholic Mass: scriptures proclaimed, and the bread blessed and broken, given to the disciples. May our hearts long for the days when we can attend the Mass and once again receive Him in the Eucharist. Lord, we pray, open our eyes Your spiritual presence today and every day. #livingeaster
