DAY 38: THE BASILICA OF ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI

Last year, for our honeymoon Cris and I, went to Italy. We visited Florence, Sienna, and Assisi. We saw so many beautiful churches like the Duomo during our visit. It was my second time to be able to visit Assisi, and I was looking forward to showing Cris around the hillside town that I found so charming.

Many churches have been part of my spiritual life. I love ICC were I grew up and received my sacraments of initiation. I love St. Theodore, where I spent my first years as a full-time youth director, and Our Lady of Mercy in BR feels like home to me.

When I step foot in the Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi, something is different. It is a beautiful church covered in frescos and is the resting place for St. Francis's remains. Its beauty would touch the heart of anyone walking in the doors. But that's not it. I have never set foot in another church where I was so overwhelmed by the presence of the Holy Spirit. It is hard for me to articulate, and if you don't believe in God, I'd never convince you with my flawed testimony. I only know that on the few occasions I have been blessed enough to worship the Lord in the Basilica of St. Francis, I could feel Christ's presence more clearly than any other moment in my life.

St. Francis, pray for us. #livinglent2
